Top-500 websites with AAAA records

Definition

This indicator gives the proportion of websites, among the top 500 of each EC countries (plus USA, Canada, China, India and Japan) of websites having at least one AAAA in their DNS records.

Websites rankings are provided by Alexa and tests are done through the v6DEMON tool. Figures are updated daily.

Measurement method

• Each 3 months, rankings are retrieved from Alexa through the Alexa API
• Daily, the v6DEMON tools:
  • requests AAAA records for each website FQDN
  • sends an HTTP request to check if the IPv6 connectivity works and compares response time (note: it is planned to make these tests from various geographical locations in the near future)

Hypothesis and uncertainties

• Most visited websites for each country gives a good representation of the entire Internet

Analysis

• While Czech Republic has almost 9% of websites among top-500 with IPv6 enabled, the worldwide average is still low with 2.37%
• As a comparison, the latest report from Hurrican Electric, testing the larger quantity of domains/websites (136 818 118) gives almost the same proportion of websites with AAAA records at a worldwide level (2.36%)
